International/regional knowledge exchange

Regional knowledge exchange involves sharing experiences, best practices, and technical expertise among Caribbean islands and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This exchange can happen through online platforms, regional conferences, bilateral visits, and collaborative projects. It covers key areas such as water management, coastal resilience, nature-based solutions, agriculture, and disaster preparedness. By learning from each other, islands can avoid repeating mistakes and adopt proven strategies for climate adaptation. Platforms like WeAdapt, Climate Adaptation Knowledge Portal, and initiatives such as IPDC Caribbean provide spaces for this collaboration.

Feasibility & Local Applicability

Knowledge exchange is highly feasible because many networks and platforms already exist. Caribbean islands, including Curaçao, Aruba, and St. Martin, are active in regional forums such as the Caribbean Climate Change Centre and Local2030 Islands Network. These exchanges can be integrated into ongoing adaptation planning and linked to funding opportunities. Virtual tools make participation easier and cost-effective, reducing barriers for smaller islands.

Beyond improving climate resilience, knowledge exchange strengthens regional solidarity and builds a larger pool of expertise. It fosters partnerships for research, innovation, and advocacy, helping islands access international funding and influence global climate policy. Equity & Vulnerability Considerations

To be effective, knowledge exchange must include diverse voices, including women, youth, and vulnerable communities. Topics such as social equity, climate justice, and gender-sensitive adaptation should be part of the agenda. Ensuring that smaller islands with limited resources can participate equally is critical. Providing materials in local languages and using accessible formats helps avoid excluding those with limited technical capacity.
